R134a - 970° Celsius flammability test: No flame propagation was observed during first tests with R134a. However, the mist of oil and refrigerant vapor could potentially be ignited. R134 cannot, therefore, be ignited during an accident simulation and under realistic operating conditions including circulating oil.
HFO-1234yf 600 Celsius flammability test for mobile air conditioning applications: At 600° C the refrigerant oil mixture was ignited. Even though the flammability envelope was reduced, the flame propagation was still significant, and sufficient to cause a secondary fire.
HFO-1234yf 970 Celsius flammability test for mobile air conditioning applications: At 970° C the refrigerant oil mixture was ignited, leading to a quite significant flame propagation. The risk of a pilot fire is therefore increased significantly.

The whoosh bottle is a neat demonstration to show flammability, expansion of gases due to combustion, and also shows how a rocket works. 20 ml of methanol is injected into a 5 gallon water cooler jug and allowed to turn to vapor. Light the top and keep away! Its cool!

Hydrogen is hardly a new power source, it's flammability has given buoyancy to numerous investments in the past. Sadly however, quite a few of them subsequently went down in flames.
But we're hoping for great things from ITM Power...
