This is my first flyback experiments. The video shows the first arc I made from a flyback transformer, my 'prototype', then it built into a box, and me frying anything I can find! The flyback is from an old black and white portable television. Im hoping to find a better flyback soon, and build a better driver circit. Enjoy!

A "black box" high voltage flyback driver. 12 volts in, 20,000 out. Runs on a 5AH sealed lead acid battery.
I found the (very simple) schematic at Sam Barros' Powerlabs: www.powerlabs.org

This is my recently build ZVS flyback driver. I'm running it at only 150 watts because the flyback can't take very much power, at higher power it will become very warm in seconds. The driver itself works great, the components stay cool, even when driven at higher powers.

1.5" to 2" arcs, with lost of ozone generation. Video starts out with a closeup of the circuit I am using. The 555 timer is set to approx 60kHz with ~50% duty cycle, I'm using a NEW, larger flyback transformer and an IRF540 power MOSFET to drive it. A high current variable DC power supply powers the whole works.

This is a rough video for reference on how to remove a flyback anode clip from a crt. This is for educational purposes only do not try at home crts produce voltages that can result in injury or death.

I've improved my ZVS driver again, I only added some big capacitors to the input, this had a big impact on output power, the flyback also becomes less warm and does not have the nasty 50hz humm anymore.
