There are some standard tests that you can conduct on yourself to find out the level of your ego. You can easily identify it its not difficult at all. As soon as someone disagrees with you, you become irritated, angry it is because the ego is hurt. The enlightened are not carried away with disagreement or agreement as they are both the same.
Vasistha the greatest yogi gives a wonderful technique for viewing and understanding life. Everything that is taking place that is going to happen has already happened. We need continuity of consciousness.
Human Language vs. Divine Language.
Every one of us has two minds within us. One is a human mind one is a Divine mind. Both of them do think thoughts unfortunately we only subscribe to the human mind. We need to train the human mind using the language of the Divine mind.

You should realize that you are limited in your perception and ego does not allow you to see what others are thinking. You need to be always looking for how ego can destroy you then you will be more balanced.
