A Catalpa tree puts out a flower that looks, for all the world, to be a form of orchid. There may even be an ancient myth about the two, but, I doubt it.
Nice smelling flower, though. As long as there isn't a bee in one of those flowers.
I can't change the lens setting while the camera is running, but, folks, I'm near 6'5" and these wingspans were easily wider than I am tall. There's NO WAY I was going out from under the porch.
Note the small birds coming out of the tall grasses back to the trees as the vultures wander off.
